Goal #7 How to Use Camtasia OH MY...

I utilized for the first time Camtasia to present a topic in our Synthesis course. Never having used this software before I viewed Atomic Learning for a tutorial: http://www.atomiclearning.com/ see D2L for user name and password. It was very detailed and time consuming. My colleague suggested I watch the you-tube clips on Camtasia which I found to be more user friendly. I completed my project with a few areas of opportunities, but for the first time using this program I am comfortable with the results. I will attach the link so you can view my presentation. As I said there are areas of improvement and I did not add all the bells and whistles, but using technology is a big step as I am not the most technical person in our group.
I would love a hands on tutorial with perhaps our IT department as this software has many great technical capabilities. It has the potential to provide pictures, sounds, color, zooming, embedding links and you-tube clips. We are currently in the process of having this software installed on a few computers in our nursing division. I think the more you use something the easier and more comfortable you will get. I am still at the novice stage, but looking forward to trying new and exciting software. Camtasia adds to the concept of the boring power point lectures. I may even try to implement some new items in my current women's health course with the use of Camtasia. If your looking to add to your current course try adding a Camtasia presentation.

Chapter 4: Brookfield What Students Value in Teachers: Camtasia Presentation

Please provide your comments to my Camtasia presentation regarding Chapter 4 of The Skillful Teacher by Stephen Brookfield. http://www.screencast.com/t/VYXYLTZ0QV22

Questions to respond to:
1) What values do you consider to be an effective teacher?

2) Do you think the use of the Critical Incident Questionnaire (CIQ) will provide valuable feedback in the course you currently teach? Is this a tool you utilize or would consider using in your current course?

I look forward to your comments.

Perks With Professional Organization Memberships Goal #6

  https://www.awhonn.org/awhonn/

I am a member of AWHONN which is the governing body behind Women's Health. They provide valuable resources related to all aspects involving women's health care. I am utilizing their case study on Preeclampsia to assist with my distance education project. Being part of an professional organization keeps everything current related to your given field. It also gives you a voice and numbers to support the important issues under discussion or debate. I have listed below all the valuable resources this organization provides to nurses involved in women's health. It was extremely helpful when we had our policy course with Dr Bishop. Being part of a professional organization i feel  is something we should discuss more with our students. They need a more global picture of nursing related to ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, Politics, standards, and policies and procedures. Being part of a nursing organization aids in promoting the important information. Many organizations also have reduced costs for students and new graduates. AWHONN provides excellent rationals on their position statements regarding patient care and procedures. They also provide educational material to hospitals, physician office's and schools. They are the authority when it comes to fetal monitoring. No matter where you are employed there is an organization that will focus on your specialty area. Being part of an organization will not only benefit you, but may also aid in your educational and nursing practices.

Goal #5: Feature Presentation Now Showing

I watched a film entitled: Future of Technology: How does that work? This film was 24 minutes of wonderful information on the use of technology. It covered aspects related to new safety features and drunk driving, silicone chips to increase battery usage in all our electronic devices, Second-Life, how technology can aid in the simulation of surfing on a city canal without waves being present. Gave many new innovative strategies related to the use of current and pending technology.

Did I mention this is a free service that is offered through the USG system. Check your current college or university for more details. My films on Demand was located under our library directory.  They provide excellent films on many of the health related topics we currently are teaching. Topics include education, technology, nursing, health and medicine, psychology and sociology and many more. These may be used as supplements to assist in the student's understanding of a given topic. I have watched several of the available films and found them very informative. . If you have time it is worth checking out as a new innovative addition to your teaching arsenal.
